Beat the Blacklist 2018 Challenge

Hey all! 2018 is right around the corner and I can hardly believe it. In December, it’s going to be exactly 6 months since I started blogging. 6 months! Damn, how time flies by! I have had so much fun over these few months, interacted with bloggers around the globe, started being active on instagram, taking part in challenges (Although never have I ever completed one, oops!), reading diverse books and so much more. I absolutely love this Book/Wordpress Community and I’m hoping to continue blogging for a long time.

With this said, I have decided that this 2018 I am going to give it my best shot to any reading challenges I take part in. Like, atleast I will try ok? So I saw this challenge over at NovelKnight’s blog and ohmygod guys IT IS SO COOL! Seriously, leave every challenge you are currently doing, sign up for this because this is the one of the most interactive and simplest of challenges I’ve come across. It basically calls on tackling the books that have been on your TBR for a long time but you just can’t get the time to read them (which means no extra money to be spent on adding new books). Basically all books published before 2018. It runs from January’2018 to December’2018 so you have soooo much time to complete this, I think even I will be able to manage lol. And if I can do it, I’m pretty sure everyone can.

It is extremely simple. And the best part? You get to pick your own books AND create your own TBR list too! If this isn’t cool, then I don’t know what is. But wait this isn’t it. Once you’ve linked back to NovelKnight’s blog, you will be paired up in a team with your own team logo and badge. With every book you tackle from your TBR, your team will be given a point. I’m a Novel Knight!!

Isn’t this so cool and an amazing way to mingle with the book community?? I’m so pumped up for this tbh. Especially because I get to make my own list haha! All you have to do is post your reading updates throughout the year on your social media platform of choice using the hashtag #BeatTheBacklist! Don’t forget to visit her blog for further details.

Anyway, so my Blacklist TBR for the year is going to be:

Stand-alones:

  1. Uprooted by Naomi Novik
  2. When We Were Orphans by Kazuo Ishiguro
  3. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo
  4. The Color Purple by Alice Walker
  5. All the Light We Cannot See
  6. Let me Die in His Footsteps
  7. Three Daughters of Eve by Elif Shafak

Series:

  • Six of Crows Duology by Leigh Bardugo

Six of Crows

Crooked Kingdom

  • Firebird Series by Claudia Gray (Book 1-3)

A Thousand Pieces of You

Ten Thousand Skies Above You

A Million Worlds With You

  • Mara Dyer Series (already read book 1)

Evolution of Mara Dyer

Retribution of Mara Dyer

  • Red Queen Series (already read book 1)

Glass Sword

King’s Cage

Classics:

  • Wuthering Heights
  • Emma by Jane Austen
  • Persuasion by Jane Austen
  • The picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde

Ok, since I have to make a realistic list, how about I stop at 20 books? Because I’m pretty sure I’ll be reading ARC’s and other new releases as well. I have categorized my blacklist so it gets easier for me to choose where to start from or which to read first. Hopefully, by the end of 2018 I will be done with thiss!!

If you guys haven’t taken part in this…well, what are you waiting for?? JUST GO AND SIGN UPP! Until then,

-Happy Reading!! xx

I LOVE the SoC duology! But I would definitely recommend reading the grisha trilogy first for that background info if you haven’t already… unless you were the person I was talking to the other day about this… 🤔🤔 I also loved the red queen series! I can’t wait for the next instalment – the final instalment! I also have Uprooted on my tbr … i also have The firebird trilogy on my tbr – but that’s been there for ages and I just haven’t gotten to it yet 😬😬😬

    1. Haha I like how we have sooo many same books in our TBR. I do have the Grisha Trilogy with me, but is it THAT important to read before SoC?

You don’t have to read them before SoC, but I think it would be better to because of the world building and the back ground story you’ll get. Also, a couple of the characters from Grisha make an appearance in SoC, so it was good knowing who hey we’re as well 🙂

There will be instructions on the Rafflecopter page which goes live on January 1st as well but for your reference, there will be a few entry options like you’d see for a regular giveaway. One will be a text box where you can write in the title/author of the book you read (or you can just copy/paste the link to its Goodreads page in that spot, either option is fine). That’s all you have to do for that!

The other options will be to add links to retail reviews you’ve written in the new year for backlist titles. For those you just copy/paste the link to your review!

Let me know if you have any other questions!

  5. That looks like a great challenge, and an excellent list!
I just recently finished reading “A Picture of Dorian Gray.” It’s pretty much awesome. I will say that there’s one chapter you’ll almost certainly be skimming–apparently the publishers wanted the book a bit longer or something? I dunno. Trust me, though, you’ll know it when you get to it. Also, this is a warning, not a spoiler: DON’T LISTEN TO LORD HENRY! He’s super funny, and incredibly quotable, but…. trust me.

      1. It’s certainly enjoyable. They have some good audiobook versions of it, too–worth checking your library for. 🙂
