June will be the month of Chick-lit releases // Books I’m excited for!

Holy Moly, it’s June already!!! Which marks half of 2019, what the hell?? Listen, it’s freaking me out how time is flying by tbh. It’s like we are traveling through a time machine which is just moving very very very fast.

<over dramatic much?>

But hey hey hey, June also means summers!!! And summers calls for??

Top 10 Tuesday: Books on my Spring TBR

Happy Spring, ya’all!

If you have been following my blog for a while now, you must know that I’m the sort who loves making TBR lists, adding more books to it, making humungous promising reading plans, talking about those never-ending lists in my blog posts…..and then never actually doing them…..yeah. Seriously though, why do you guys still follow and read this kind of an indecisive blogger who can’t even get a hold on her life???

But. If you’re an amazing follower, and you’re still here and reading, how about I dive into more of my TBR lists for spring?

The first three will literally be the ones I planned to read in spring break about which I’ve talked about in my Spring plans post. (Mini news update: I’m buddy reading Gilded Cage with Victoria!)

Hello guysss!!!
Welcome back to my blog after my very unexpected first long hiatus. I genuinely feel so outdated with everyone’s blogs and even my own blog, tbh. Basically I haven’t had any time recently, like any time at all, to blog or read. Hell, I didn’t even have time to myself in like a really really really really long time!!

Imagine. This is my birthday month, my birthday came and went by and I didn’t blog, or post anywhere on any social media. I was like, “Oh I will upload a birthday book haul, or gifts I want for my birthday, or just randomly telling bloggers out there to make me feel special on my birthday, but hey guess what? I DID NOT GET TIME THE ENTIRE NOVEMBER TO POST, SO BASICALLY I LOST ALL CHANCES OF GRABBING YOUR ATTENTION, YOU GUYS. *sighs*

(Can we pretend that the day you read this is my birthday and you all shower me with birthday wishes and ask me what gifts I want? (love you guys thanks) )

Anyway, now for some legit explanation of my long absence and for updating what I did in my “very busy month”

Okay, so I had this theatre inter-school festival at my college and I was one of the managing directors of the event. It was a three-day event with lots of different plays to watch. Sadly, I couldn’t watch any play because I was running to and fro like crazy trying to keep things…well…proper. Hats off to event managers who so successfully manage events and can still smile so gracefully in pictures at the end. Like on the last day of the event, I was just like, “Fuck this shit. I’m not managing another event again.” But guess what? Next week I have another drama event, AND I AM AGAIN THE DIRECTOR HA. UGH. IDK HOW TO EVEN REACT.

Then right the next day, I had 3 quizzes, 1 research project due and 1 assignment. When I was finally done with this, I went and got a much needed 10-hour sleep.

I woke up and was like Thank God, now let’s read. But no, that just can’t happen in university, guys. It’s time to accept that. Like if soemone asks me to describe university in one sentence I’ll just be like, “A phase in life where you just get emotionally and physically frustrated and drained and you realise how much you’re ready to give just to be back home.” Sorry to all you freshmen or high-schoolers out there, but seriously guys this is the ultimate truth.

Moving on, I had enrollment phase for my next semester and OHMYGOD I LITERALLY PICKED UP MY DREAM COURSE. I’m not even joking, it’s really something I’m so obsessed about. “Jane Austen and the domestication in the 19th Century” Like seriously guys, all of you should get up from your seats at this moment and give a woot of approval on this. Or just sit and clap. Whatsoever, but damn I AM SO EXCITED! As per the course outline, we get to read all Austen’s novels which means I will be tested on Pride and Prejudice in my exam! Like that’s damn crazy, who would have thought examinations would ever be fun!!?!!

But yet again, my happiness phase didn’t last long and I got another assignment which was actually fun tbh. I had to watch 2 movies: Dangerous Minds and Whiplash and compare and analyse the teaching techniques used in the movies. This was basically for my educational psychology course and I still have got to watch Whiplash and analyse that uuhh.

At this point you all must be wondering why is this even a book reviewing blog when all she is doing here is ranting about her life. But hey hey, thanks for bearing with me because now I will actually say something which is very much bookish, and basically what you all are here for. My very amazing birthday book-haul which was given to me as my birthday gift by my very amazing group of friends (this is a moment of minute fame for my friends because they get to be featured on my blog haha. I’ve told these guys I’m the Kim Kardashian of the wordpress world LOLOL) Not that I would ever, like ever, be any one of those high-maintenance over-dramatic freaks.

Before I deviate further…..TAA-DAAA….

ISN’T THIS JUST AMAZING? I honestly can’t wait to read these. ESPECIALLY ILLUMINAE. I am so in awe at how smartly and uniquely that book is written! It is told in all sorts of documentations, media files, dictionaries, voice recordings like…it’s not a properly narrated book, but it is so much better in so many ways!!! I really hope the story is just AS good, because I am genuinely excited to read that!

On a side note, my current read is The Book of Lost Things.(Finally!) I literally just started it lol, but I’m hoping to read atleast 50 pages a day so i can complete it by next week. Oh also, I read A Million Pieces of You and I LOOOVVEED it! I will write a review but to be honest, that’s not going to happen this month because I’m just feeling really really lazy.

What have you guys been doing this past month? What books have you guys read or going to read? Update me in the comments below, I’ll be happy to hear from all of you!!

Take care! xx

Goodreads Monday: The Book of Lost Things

Hi guys!! I hope this blog post finds you in good health and graces!

Goodreads Monday is my favourite of all weekly posts. It is a weekly meme hosted by Lauren @ Lauren’s PageTurners in which we get a chance to choose any one book from our never-ending TBR pile and show it offff! I mean it made its way to your TBR pile for some reason, right? So share it with usss!! Also, check out Lauren’s page and link back to her!

So my pick for this Monday is The Book of Lost Things by John Connolly.

It was only recently that I found out that the book has so many different editions! Isn’t that amazing? I always love it when books have different covers and editions.

Published date: 7th November, 2006

High in his attic bedroom, twelve-year-old David mourns the death of his mother, with only the books on his shelf for company. But those books have begun to whisper to him in the darkness. Angry and alone, he takes refuge in his imagination and soon finds that reality and fantasy have begun to meld. While his family falls apart around him, David is violently propelled into a world that is a strange reflection of his own — populated by heroes and monsters and ruled by a faded king who keeps his secrets in a mysterious book, The Book of Lost Things.

Taking readers on a vivid journey through the loss of innocence into adulthood and beyond, New York Times bestselling author John Connolly tells a dark and compelling tale that reminds us of the enduring power of stories in our lives.

It has characters like Red Riding Hood, Snow White, The Woodsman and The Crooked Man. Kind of like those childhood characters! So it sounds so interesting. I really want to get this book, but I haven’t seen it at my local bookstore. I found the audiobook, but like I don’t really want to waste such an epic read on an audiobook.

What do you guys think of the book? Have you read it? If not, will you plan to? Let me know in the comments below!!

-Happy Reading! xx

Bookish Thought #2: Pride and Prejudice, The Movie

Before we start, let me warn you this is going to be more of like a rant. A lot of people may not agree with me and might also be offended. (I’ve been saying it from the day I started a blog, that I will be very fucking honest with my feelings!) If you like Kierra Knightley, now will be a good time to like this post and go. (Yes, I mean now that you’re here, you may as well like this lol)

Pride and Prejudice is my favourite classic ever! I absolutely adore Jane Austen’s writing and of-course, Elizabeth Bennet. So naturally, when I decided to watch the movie adaptation, I knew that it wouldn’t be as good as the book, but what I also didn’t expect was how much of a disappointment it would be!!! I mean ok, the story is there but the choice of characters?! AAHHH DON’T EVEN GET ME STARTED! I dont really care about a lot of characters, so I’m only going to discuss those which were an important part of this book.

WHO THE FUCK IN THEIR RIGHT STATE OF MIND THOUGHT THAT KEIRA KNIGHTLEY WILL MAKE A GOOD ELIZABETH BENNET?! I mean, how? and why? NO. JUST NO. Have you seen how she speaks? And Elizabeth’s laugh was never this annoying… And what’s wrong with her hair, dude? Even when she is crying, she is smiling, and when she is smiling, its just…not how I imagined Elizabeth would smile. Even though Keira delivered the same dialogues that were written by Jane Austen, her expressions and delivery didn’t go well with it.

My next favourite character, Mr.Bennet was the greatest disappointment!!! I almost coudn’t believe they picked up Donald Sutherland to be him!

He seems toooooo old like naa-aah no. Where is the aura of wisdom and sarcasm that surrounds him in the book?! AND HE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE HANDSOME! But no, instead the director or whoever casted him decided to make Mr.Bennet look like a stupid mug-head! *groans* It is just intolerable!

And oh poor Mr.Darcy! He was umm…mehh.. I so imagined Benedict Cumberbatch to be Mr.Darcy. His expression and attire would be fucking 110% PERFECTION! But then again, all the casting has been pretty much done with a blind-fold. However, I will give credit to Mathew McFayden, for maintaining the no-smiles and stiffness in his character.

And Mr.Bingley…         giphy (2).

I’m sorry I really couldn’t control my laughter when I saw him. Such a stupid looking fellow! I mean he was portrayed as toooo silly and all-smiley-smiles which was plain annoying! His acting was alright, but he looked..hahahaha I just can’t stop HE LOOKED LIKE A JOKE!

Lastly, only Jane Bennet, I could say lived upto the expectations of the book.

Oh waaaaitttt, How can I forget Mr.Colin?! I honestly hated the guy, so I was happy to see that he was made exactly what he was: A people-pleaser dipshit.

*Drinks a glass of water to calm my nerves* Now with the characters out of the way! AAAH.

There are just soooo many differences, its heart-breaking! Before you all roll your eyes at me with the Oh-what-are-you-whining-about-bitch-movies-are-OBVIOUSLY-not-like-books, I know that already, but this is PRIDE AND PREJUDICE GODDAMIT! It’s very dear to me, so I am sorry (not sorry!) if I’m questioning everything. And my mind WOULD NOT be at peace until I discuss every itty-gritty detail!

The alterations made:

Addition: Out of nowhere, Elizabeth confronted Mr.Darcy about calling her a “tolerable” partner and hurting her pride. She never does that in the book because she is a sensible girl who doesn’t give two fucks about Mr.Darcy’s opinion, unlike our delicate petite Kierra Knightly. (I honestly don’t like her AT ALL)

Scene : The proposal scene (my favourite, too!)

Book: It takes place in the drawing room at Mr.Collins’ abode. And was one of the most subtle, decent and a perfect proposal ever existing in the history of all proposals. No cheesines, no Iloveyou’s and Icantlivewithoutyou shit. Just very smart use of words which were overflowing with love.

Movie: takes place out in the open, I don’t know the fuck where, WHEN IT’S RAINING! Could it BE any stupid-er? I absolutely hate rain love scenes! They are fucking cliche! Oh and how did the directors manage to ruin this perfect scene? By letting Mr.Darcy say the words right out. Like spitting them out.  Like there you go bitch, I love you! Ughhhhhhhh. Bloody hell!

Scene: When Elizabeth gets the letter from Jane telling about Lydia’s elopement

Book: Elizabeth is all-alone at Pemberley while her aunt and uncle are out for a walk. Mr.Darcy sees her crying, and he hurts (I know he does!) and sends for his servants to fetch Lizzie’s aunt.

Movie: She receives the letter in front of everyone, and cries in front of everyone! EVERYONE! Lizzie was a smart strong girl who hated making her feelings known!!  (I’m sorry but I was rooting for every Elizabeth and Mr.Darcy scene in the book so when they get altered, you can only just imagine by rage!)

Scene: The last walk of Mr.Darcy and Elizabeth from dash to dash when they both declared their love for each other and the event of the very famous dialogue “If your feelings are still the same as they were last April, tell me so, and I would never approach the subject again. My affections and wishes are unchanged, but one word from you will silence me on this subject forever.”

Movie: They removed the walk entirely! Not to mention, their aunt, Mrs.Gardiner, too! I mean c’mon, I really liked her and she should have been given more credit in the movie! It was she and her husband who re-united Elizabeth and Darcy at Derbyshire. (How the fuck do I even remember such details?!!) And aah, again with the stupid I love you. The movie just ruined the “in between lines” classical romance. It was so sad to see that. And Knightley’s acting…..😭

Omggg there’s sooo much more I could say but right now, my hands are hurting and before you all get bored with my rants, I think I should wave my goodbyes for today!

One last thing though:

Yupp, that’s it. I promise no more ranting.

See you all next time with hopefully, a better positive blog post LOL.

Is there any movie adaptation of your favourite book which you guys disliked? What were your thoughts about it? Let me know in the comments below! xx

-Signing off now!

ReadaThon August’17

So this is going to be my first ever reading challenge I’m gonna do as a blogger and I’m super super excited for this! It is called a “Read-a-thin” challenge that is all about thinning our ever-growing TBR list. I thank Jessica @ JessicaMarie493 Chelsea @ AVeryBookishGirl and Amanda @ ACourtofBooksandLove for making this a very simple, easy and an interesting challenge.

  • You will have the entire month to read these books.
  • The goal is to complete 6 challenges!
  • You can double up on challenges. In other words, you can use one book for two different challenges!
  • So you only have to read 3 books in a month to completely finish the readathon! Easy!

So here goes my 6 challenges:

1. A 2017 book release

“History is All You Left Me”

By Adam Silvera

2. Read a book starting with a letter from TBR (the word “the” doesn’t count)

“Three Daughters of Eve

by Elif Shafak

3.  Read a book with a warm colored cover (orange, red, yellow, brown)

“I’ll Give You The Sun”

by Jandy Nelson

4. Book with water on the cover

“The Ocean at The End of The Lane”

by Neil Gaiman

5. Read a book outside of your favourite genre

“When Breathe Becomes Air”

by Paul Kalanithi

I usually read YA Contemporary novels and historical fiction. This is the first memoir I’m gonna read so…serves the purpose! Let’s see if I like the idea of memoirs, I will hopefully read Memoirs of A Geisha then….

6.  A new-to-you author

I’ll give you the Sun

By Jandy Nelson

Because I didn’t know about her until I read all the bookreviews on WordPress only!

So this is my TBR for this month. I’m gonna try my best to read all of these books because I’ve also got so many tv shows to watch as well before University starts so I’m kind of all pre-occupied!

What have all of you got in your TBR’s this month? And what other things have you got to do besides reading, this month? I would love to know. Don’t forget to comment and tag me in your posts if you decide to participate!!

-Happy Reading! x
